FROM OUR ARCHIVES:
Without history, one always wonders about their origin. The Vietnamese American journey in general is an unheard story, or in many cases, a misconception. The purpose of this website is to provide the public the evidence of this journey by documenting the experiences, the contributions and the achivements of almost two million Vietnamese Americans in the new land. We warmly invite you to explore the wesite, to share with us what it means to be a Vietnamese American.
When Saigon fell on April 30, 1975, approximately 200,000 freedom seekers fled Vietnam. Most of these individuals ended up in Guam. 31 years later, on April 23, 2006 Vietnamese American Heritage Foundation (VAHF) members and supporters made its Operation New Beginnings journey to Guam. The purpose of this visit was to accept a collection of documents that recorded Guam’s hosting of over 150,000 Vietnamese in 1975. VAHF will make this collection available to the public on this website in honor of the Government of Guam, the U.S. Navy, the Anderson Air Force, the University of Guam, the Pacific Daily News, members of the Vietnamese community who remained in Guam and the local native Guamanians who cared enough to collect, store and maintain this valuable collection. Please check our Virtual Archives to view hundreds of documents and pictures that document Vietnamese American very first step of a long journey in the new land. Also you can check the Events page for a detailed report on the VAHF’s trip to Guam.
